Good news - Old Man Winter is back in town! After a quiet, warm start to winter, the white stuff is back in the Sleeping Bear Dunes and The Homestead is opening its slopes again this Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, at noon.

But – hold up - it’s not going to be a quiet opening. Instead, the slopes will be abuzz with giveaways and film crews!

The Homestead Whiskers“Both our friends M22 and Pure Michigan will be out enjoying Bay Mountain with film crews,” says Tony Farragh, director of sales at The Homestead. “The snow guns have been running and our new groomer has been filling in the gaps. We are happy to have the warm temps of January 2023 in our rear-view mirror and looking forward to the rest of the ski season ahead of us!”

The weekend will also include big giveaways in partnership with M22 and the Sleeping Bear Dunes Visitors Bureau.

“We are giving away a $1,000 Burton gift card and a $1,000 REI gift card for someone to put toward a snowboard package or a fat tire bike,” Farragh said. “On top of that, we will also be giving away ski getaway weekends, lift tickets, and other cool things.”

Then, on Saturday, photographers from Pure Michigan are coming to explore the resort and ski hills. Smile! You might be part of the footage.

“That’s pretty exciting to have them get footage of our area,” Farragh said. “Winter has made its way here. We are looking forward to an exciting weekend!”

The Homestead Re-Opens for SkiingMore about skiing at The Homestead

You will find something at The Homestead that you can’t get on any other ski slope - spectacular views of Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands from the top of Bay Mountain. If you love skiing, try skiing in the heart of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore!

Bay Mountain has 15 different runs for a variety of skill levels and three chair lifts. For entry-level and youth, they have two additional lifts: the Magic Carpet and Pony Tow.

The ski lifts operate on Fridays from 12pm to 7pm, Saturdays from 9am to 7pm, and Sundays from 9am to 4pm (with extended hours for Presidents Day Weekend). Daily lift capacity may be limited, but registered Homestead guests and Beach Club members have guaranteed access to the slopes during operating hours.

Lift tickets can be purchased through a Homestead lodging package or on-site at Mountain Flowers Lodge. You can get pricing on lift tickets here and rental equipment here. There are also snowshoe and x-country ski trails on a National Lakeshore Trail (Bay View Trail) that can be accessed from the resort's Mountain Village to enjoy.

Come on out and enjoy snow in the Sleeping Bear Dunes – at last!
