The Homestead and several Leelanau County wineries have been included in Hour Detroit Magazine’s annual Best of Detroit poll. Now you can help them cross the finish line.
The Homestead has been nominated for Favorite Michigan Resort by readers of the lifestyle publication, which conducts the annual readers’ poll. It is not alone in its recognition, as six Leelanau County wineries are among the ten nominated for Best Michigan Winery.
You can help The Homestead and your favorite winery get to the next level by voting in the poll. Simply go to tinyurl.com/VoteTheHomestead and scroll down to Michigan Resorts under the heading Services, then select The Homestead. Under the Favorite Winery section in the Drinks category, you can choose from Bel Lago, Black Star Farms, Boathouse Vineyards, Mawby, Rove Estate and Verterra Winery as your favorite Michigan Winery. The contest runs through March 9.
Bob Kuras, the owner and CEO of The Homestead, said he is pleased at the recognition for the resort, which typically falls to such places as the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. “We are excited and honored to have been nominated by readers of Hour Detroit for their favorite Michigan resort,” says Kuras.
The Homestead is the only full-service resort in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the only such resort in Michigan in a national park. It features attractions for every season, from its ski hill to its mile-long Lake Michigan beach and Manitou Passage Golf Club. The Homestead is also is home to pools, tennis courts and several restaurants, and offers access to nearby trails, beaches, shops and the charming small towns of the county.
“The nomination reflects on our service and the many amenities we offer for all four seasons,” Kuras says. “We hope people choose to support The Homestead and our efforts to provide our owners and visitors the best experience in whatever season they choose to be here.”
This is not the only accolade the area is receiving. Already voted the Most Beautiful Place in America by viewers of ABC-TV’s Good Morning America, the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park was recently cited by Trip Advisor for its one-of-a-kind beach, placing fourth in the world. It was the only beach in the U.S. to receive recognition in any of the travel website’s three categories of beaches that potentially could include those in this country.
Now readers can further that continuing recognition by voting for The Homestead and one of the many Leelanau wineries on the ballot. While the bulk of the categories focus exclusively on the greater Detroit metro area, the Best Michigan Resort category includes properties in northern lower Michigan. The Best Winery section includes wineries in Macomb and St. Clair Counties as well as this area. While some of the wineries in the list are designated as being in Traverse City, they are all in Leelanau County.
