It’s picking time again in northern Michigan for strawberries, cherries, peaches, raspberries, blueberries and more. That means a late-summer adventure that the whole family can enjoy.

There’s nothing quite as sweet as fruit picked fresh from the branch or vine. Check it out for yourself at one of Leelanau County’s most popular  “U-pick” farms and orchards.

Alpers Berry Farm

U-Pick: raspberries

Location: Located 15 minutes west of Traverse City in Cedar on County Road 651 between M-72 and M-22.

Clearbrook Farms

U-Pick: Peaches, Chinese chestnuts

Location: Just 5 minutes north of the Village of Northport. Follow Mill Street (201) north out of town. Pass Petersen Park Road, then bear left on Kilcherman Road. Travel for 1/2 mile and turn right on East Sugar Bush Road. Farm is on the right.

 

Westover Market

U-Pick: blueberries, black and red raspberries, gooseberries

Season: Mid-April through October 31st.  Hours 9 AM to 6 PM Monday through Sunday.

Location: Take M-72 W out of Traverse City, approx. 13 miles to County Road 667 (Maple City Rd.). Turn right and follow County Road 667 into Maple City. One hundred yards past flashing light, turn left on Burdickville Road (County Road 616). Farm is located 1/4 mile further, on the left.
