Fishing on Lakes, Streams and Rivers Up North
In Lake Michigan
or a thrill, fish the deep waters of Lake Michigan for Yellow Perch, Sauger, Walleye,
Steelhead, Lake Trout, Coho and Chinook (King) Salmon. You can launch at Glen Arbor or,
if you wish, charter at Leland.
Fly Fishing
Fly fishers will discover diverse fishing opportunities set amidst some of the Midwest's most spectacular scenery. There's classic "hatch" fishing for wild Brown, Rainbow and Brook Trout in the National Lakeshore's Platte and in the nearby Boardman and Betsie. The Crystal River, which runs through the National Lakeshore and The Homestead, also experiences prolific runs of spring Steelhead, fall Coho and lake-run Brown Trout. For an all new experience, cast for carp in the shallow waters of Lake Michigan and... hang on!
Orvis Fly Fishing Schools
The Homestead's Orvis Fly Fishing School is the perfect way to become acquainted with the wonderful sport of fly fishing. Students can participate in a complete schedule of fly fishing schools, casting clinics and fly tying classes each season. From classroom, to casting on a pond, to casting on the beautiful Crystal and Platte Rivers, the Orvis schools are the simplest way to learn to fly fish. Instruction is offered throughout the spring and summer months including three-day schools, private and semi-private casting lessons and private schools for groups as small as four and as large as fifty.
