Grand Traverse Light
urther north is the Grand Traverse Light which was built in 1850, deemed inadequate
and relocated and rebuilt in 1858. A larger, fourth-order Fresnel lens which was
powered by Whale Oil and Kerosene was installed in 1870 and used until electrified
in 1953. In 1972 the tower light was replaced with an automated beacon mounted on
a steel tower. You can tour the lighthouse from May to November. Hours vary. The
cost is $4 for adults, $2 for children with children under 5 free.
