Centennial Project Seeks Top 100 National Park Stories

7 May 2015

Got a favorite Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore story to tell? As part of its “Find Your Park” campaign, the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation are asking people to share their favorite park memories for a chance to win some cool prizes.

Check out the link to find out how you can participate, show off your writing chops and turn the national spotlight on the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

National Parks have helped shaped America’s history and our heritage, the lives of individuals and communities. In 2016, the NPS will celebrate its 100th anniversary. To celebrate and spread awareness about the role our incredible parks and lakeshores play in defining the character and culture of America, the NPS kicked off its Find Your Park campaign back in March.

Share Your Park

As part of the program, the NPS is also looking for people to share their most memorable park experiences. You can currently upload any songs, photos, paintings, poems or short videos (anything in a digital format that was inspired by your favorite national park or lakeshore) as part of the NPS’s Share Your Park program. Click the link to check out a growing gallery of submissions from across the United States.

Submit A Story

When you visit the site, you’ll also see a tab for The Centennial Project. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with a real story to tell. It could be a life-changing event or formative experience that happened while on vacation at a place like the Sleeping Bear Dunes. It might be a story about the healing power of nature or a personal essay that sheds new light on the importance of our national park system and how it has influenced your work or shaped your life.

Anyone can enter as long as you submit your entry by 8:00 pm (ET) on September 7, 2015. After preselecting 250 finalists for public voting. Entries will be judged on the following attributes: (1) Relevance to Find Your Park, (2) Originality, (3) Overall Impression. Public voting for the best 100 stories will begin on October 5th. Prizes camping supplies, camping getaways, VIP passes to the NPS Centennial Celebration next year and more.

So check out findyourpark.com. There you’ll find some videos from celebrity “Centennial Ambassadors” that just might help inspire your own original story about “America’s Most Beautiful Place.”
