From Empire to Glen Arbor and all along the M22 corridor, you’ll find fresh Leelanau Peninsula produce and local products on sale almost every day at famers markets happening throughout the county. Come enjoy a day at the Leland Harbor, near historic Fishtown, tasting award-winning wines from local wineries, and delicious, specialties from local restaurants and vendors. The 31st Annual Leland Wine & Food Festival is almost here.

Sleeping Bear Dunes Barn Restoration Workshop
June 13th thru June 18th

The Michigan Barn Preservation Network and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will be hosting a hands-on barn restoration workshop in June at the John Burfiend Barn located on Port Oneida Road (four miles north of Glen Arbor, Michigan, on M-22).

The workshop will address repairing “Barn Floors and Hewn Building Sills and Floor Joists.” The John Burfiend Barn was the site of the first park and Michigan Barn Preservation Network workshop in 1997.

The course will include: 1) basics about structural and load analysis for floors and sills; 2) repair of rough sawn floorboards, floor joist; 3) repair and installation of hewn sills; 4) exterior siding repair; and 5) tool safety while completing the task presented.

The course is set up so that participants of any skill level can receive hands-on training of all techniques. Past workshop attendees have ranged in age from 7 to 75 with each contributing their own unique skills to the project.

The workshop begins on site at 9 am each day. There is no cost to participants. Tools and materials will be provided. Participants should wear boots, gloves, and bring a sack lunch for each day that they attend.  Participants can sign up for any number of days.

Solstice Half Marathon and 5k
June 18th

Endurance Revolution will again host this always popular, super scenic half marathon and 5k running race in beautiful Glen Arbor, Michigan. The USATF-certified half marathon will take runners around Big Glen Lake in a clockwise loop, starting and finishing near downtown Glen Arbor. Runners ascend Inspiration Point on the south side of Big Glen Lake where they will experience one of the most spectacular views of Leelanau County. The 5k course is flat and fast, and will take runners through tree-lined roads near downtown Glen Arbor. Registration prices (now $79 per entrant for the marathon and $37 per entrant for the 5k walk/run) increase after May 31st. Click here for more information and to register.

 

Traverse City Art & Wine Festival
June 25th, 4:00 – 9:00 pm
